That’s the Fact, Jack

My kids and I have mutally decided that if we ever started our own church, we would no longer close the responsive reading with “Amen”.  We like this better:

Pastor: In the name of the Father, of the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  It’s all good.
Congregation: It’s all good.

I think I may try to start this trend at my own church.

Of course we are a Baptist church and so

    a) we do responsive readings on random Sundays–not every single one

    and

    b) We never say “Amen” at the end.

    and

    c) Most of our people are not used to reading responsively so we all kind of trickle off at various intervals at the end.

For a long time, to open the service our pastor would say:

    Pastor: God is good
    Us: All the time
    Pastor: All the time
    Us: God is good.

Kinda cool. He’s left for another church now, but we still do it occasionally with our new pastor.
